As I mentioned on the About page, we've had a lot of adventures on the ranch so far this year that have resulted in doing a lot of research in the archaelogical field as well as in more recent history. Both have left us looking at each other and saying, "WOW".

We have been finding pottery sherds all over the property—one or two pieces here and there and in other places as many as 60 in about a 10x10 foot area. Most pieces are about the size of a dime, but we have found some that are two to three inches in diameter.

We've joked about finding Mammoth bones on the property. Come to find out, Clovis man hunted Mammoths in the area 10,000-12,000 years ago. Then just like we started finding the sherds when we planted the Indian corn, online articles started popping up about a frozen baby Mammoth that was found in Siberia. The little darlin' haunted me for almost a month, popping up on the MSN homepage, Yahoo and through several other online news groups. Rick dropped me off at Safeway one day so I could do the shopping while he ran other errands. While I was waiting for him, I decided to cruise the magazine rack...and there was the Ice Baby featured in a article in National Geographic! I bought a copy of the magazine and it hasn't popped up since!

At this point I'd like to take a moment to thank Allen Dart, who is the Executive Director at Old Pueblo Archaeology Center and Patricia L. Crown, co-author of "Ceramic Production in the American Southwest". Mr. Dart took time out of one of his weekends to send me maps and references and has gone above and beyond in answering our questions, giving advice and helping us to fit together pieces of our historical jigsaw puzzle. I'd also like to thank the Museum of Northern Arizona for providing me with a copy of a very rare and (to me) precious manuscript.
