I started making
these a couple of years ago when I was working the night shift at a ranch
for troubled youths. Once "my girls" were asleep, I could do just about
anything but leave the building, use spray paint, run a chainsaw or go
to sleep myself. To make the time go faster, I would bring my craft projects
with me and work on them.
I painted my
first flymask and showed it to Rick. He shook his head. "You are
NOT going to put that on Shiloh!" Ooohhhh...yes I am! And
I did.

Some
friends saw the masks and liked them, so I did some for them. Then
I started getting more requests.
We've
had a ball selling them at the Bisbee Farmer's Market and just by
word of mouth. Your horse will be sure to "stand out"
in the herd with one of these fly masks!
It's
hard to get mad at them when they'e wearing their masks. You'll
find yourself talking to the eyes on the mask instead of where their
eyes really are!

The colors of the mask are
silver with black trim. They are good, quality Defender masks with a large
ear loop and sturdy double Velcro closures under the chin. They come in
Sizes: Small (Arab), Medium (Horse) and Large (Oversized, but not Draft).

The design is painted
on the outside of the mask with non-toxic acrylic paint and positioned so that
it does not interfere with your horse's field of vision.
Since the designs
are painted on, washing them in the washing machine is not recommended.
Cleaning the flymask is a matter of rinsing them under cold water and
allowing them to air dry.
These photos turned
out kind of funky because of the mesh material in the fly masks. We are working
on getting better ones!
